Job Description

Work Location: 1227 Brady Blvd, San Antonio Texas

Under general direction, is responsible for performing complex case management services that support the Head Start Parent, Family, and Community Engagement Framework, including mental health consultations, to high-need families. Working conditions include working inside an office environment as well as some time working outside. Exercises functional supervision.

This position is a “grant funded” position, therefore unclassified and has no disciplinary appeal rights to the Municipal Civil Service Commission. This position is likewise subject to at-will employment status and can be terminated at any time for any reason.

Essential Job Functions:

Performs intensive case management services, including screening, assessments and referrals to families with the highest needs such as those related to children and families experiencing trauma, exposure to domestic violence and other at-risk factors impacting the well-being of children and families.
Coordinates Head Start programs by providing high-needs families in crisis with appropriate community resources and linkages, such as food, housing, clothing, transportation, and education.
Promotes medical, dental, nutritional and mental health for children and families.
Conducts home visits and classroom visits to promote education for Head Start parents on a variety of topics, including mental health, child growth and social-emotional development, parenting skills, child abuse prevention, guidance and discipline, disabilities, family literacy, and community advocacy.
Trains and coaches staff on best practices in child and family case management.
Collects data, maintains records, and supports compliance in all facets of Head Start Performance Standards and State regulations.
Conducts home visits during the summer for families new to Head Start or Family Meetings for returning families to provide a program overview and collect needed program documents.
Develops and implements transition activities for families and children entering or graduating from the Head Start program.
Works with families to establish goals and write action plans with identified resources so families are able to meet their goals.
Documents the work with families in the Head Start data management system.
Performs related duties and fulfills responsibilities as required.

Job Requirements:

Bachelor’s Degree in social work or counseling from an accredited college or university program.
Three (3) years of experience in social work with individuals and families or related experience.
This position requires a valid Class “C” Texas Driver’s License OR valid driver’s license from another state with the ability to obtain a valid Texas Driver’s License within 30 days of becoming a Texas resident. Use of your own personal vehicle may at times be required and proof of Liability Insurance will be required.
No substitution for education allowed.
Must obtain Pediatric CPR and First Aid Certification within first 60 days in position.
Must meet the qualifications of a Mental Health Professional as outlined by the Texas Department of State Health Services within 12 months of employment, including State of Texas licensure at the bachelor’s level or above for social workers or licensure at the master’s level or above for counselors. Recognized State Licensures include: Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), Licensed Professional Counselor Intern (LPC-I), Licensed Social Workers (LBSW, LMSW, LMSW-IPR, LCSW), Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT), Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist Associate (LMFT-A), under direct supervision of a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist-Supervisor.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Master’s in social work or counseling from an accredited college or university program.
Bilingual in English and Spanish.
A parent of a current or former participant in a Head Start program.
Experience working with young children and their families.
Experience working with families experiencing poverty.
Experience working with children with disabilities and their families.
Experience providing crisis case management and/or mental heath support.
