Duties & Responsibilities
Center for Education Policy Research (CEPR) at Harvard University is looking for a MS SQL Server Developer/DBA to perform technical implementation and database maintenance of SQL Server database systems, used to ingest and integrate education data from external sources to support data-driven decision-making. Responsibilities of this position include configuring, monitoring and maintaining SQL server environments, as well as database tuning and optimization. Additionally, the SQL Server Developer/DBA will work closely with CEPR Data Management team and research analysts and design and develop efficient processes to extract, transform, and load (ETL) data between systems using SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS), stored procedures, and related scripting. She/He will also provide production support to regular data loading and will configure and monitor batch processes using SQL Server utilities or third-party auto-scheduling tools.
Responsibilities:
• Design and implement ETL solutions using SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS), stored procedures, and functions.
• Configure and monitor SQL Server systems and proactively address issues to ensure optimum performance. Maintain database integrity, stability and availability.
• Define, implement and monitor database access control policies and procedures to ensure data security in compliance to regulations and contractual terms. Define and maintain data quality assurance metrics and perform database auditing.
• Administer SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS) including scheduling, integration and user access management.
• Schedule and monitor data processing jobs and provide troubleshooting in timely fashion.
• Create and maintain documentation related to ETL processes and database procedures.
• Research and evaluate new tools and technologies to improve efficiency and better support growing data processing needs.
• Monitor, maintain and deploy multiple databases and implement automated database processes.
• Manage regular database backup and on-demand recovery.

This is a one year term position with the possibility of continuation.

Basic Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related fields.
• 3+ year experience of development and administration of Microsoft SQL server 2008/2012 R2 with minimum of 1 year experience as Database Administrator (DBA).
• Prior experience writing and debugging SQL codes (stored procedures, functions, views, triggers and maintenance scripts).
• Experience troubleshooting and resolving database integrity issues and performance bottlenecks.
• Experienced in database security, backup and recovery.
• Hands-on experience of MS SQL SSIS and SSRS development and system configuration.
• Extensive experience in performance tuning, query optimization using SQL Server utilities, scripting, or other related tools.
• Working knowledge of Microsoft PowerShell.
• Experience in production support, change control and automation.

• Strong communication, problem solving, and analytical skills.
• Prior development experience in a data warehousing environment.
• Experience in database migration and upgrade.
• Experience with database resource planning.
• Ability to work independently and flexibly with sound judgement and attention to details.
• Knowledge of FERPA regulations and related data security best practices.
