CDM Smith’s Austin, TX team is seeing a level III inspector to inspect and monitor construction activities at the site. Inspector III is able to perform the most complex inspection activities for the 5 categories of inspection: 1) Roadway 2) Bridges 3) Drainage 4) Erosion & Control 5) Maintenance & Traffic. Works under limited supervision from higher level inspectors and engineers. May be the sole inspector on a small project. Work requires knowledge of materials, methods, and equipment used in highway construction; knowledge of geometry and basic mathematics; ability to read, interpret and explain construction plans and drawings, contract provisions, and specifications; and communications ability. Demonstrated ability to instruct other employees in proper work methods.

Job description:
– Performs complex and routine/standard inspections of construction to evaluate if appropriate materials and construction processes are used; and that construction conforms to plans, specifications, and special provisions. Uses higher grade of equipment and performs complex calculations to perform inspection. Works under limited supervision.
– Reviews drawings to prepare for the inspection. Understands the design of the construction that will be inspected.
– Plans the overall inspection and determines specific inspections to perform on small projects where Inspector III is the sole inspector.

Minimum Qualifications:
– Associates degree in a Construction related field. Minimum of 3 years of progressive experience in Highway Construction or High School Diploma or equivalent with a minimum of 7 years’ progressive experience in Highway Construction.
– Demonstrated ability to manage assignments independently and to communicate effectively.
– Certifications as required from a State Highway Agency or National Entity such as ACI (American Concrete Institute) or NICET (National Institute for Certification in Engineering Technologies) in earthwork, asphalt, and concrete.
– Must possess a valid driver’s license
