Job Description


The Waterjet Operator performs tasks involved in programing, maintaining, servicing and operating FLOW Corp Water Jet Systems and other duties as required.

Essential Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:

• Ability to handle raw material, operate material handling equipment, and load waterjet cutting equipment. Vacuum Lifting System & Magnets
• Skill required to operate, calibrate, and adjust waterjet equipment as needed.
• Skill required to perform preventative maintenance on waterjet equipment, i.e., follow established machine maintenance schedules detailing preventative maintenance checks and services:
o Removing/Pumping Abrasive
o Replacing Slates
o Filling Abrasive Hopper
o Monitor and Address Fluid Reservoirs, Lubrication Points, and Pneumatic Lines
o Perform Corrosion Prevention and Control
o Maintain Clean Hazard-free Work Area
• Skill to troubleshoot/detect mechanical malfunctions and perform basic repairs:
o Replace High-pressure Lines and Gauges
o Diagnose and Replace Cutting Head Components, i.e., Mixing Tube, Nozzle, Orifice, etc.
• Skill to detect non-conforming/out-of-tolerance parts and determine appropriate adjustments within the equipment’s accepted operating parameters to produce quality parts.
• Keep inventory & submit requests of replacement parts required to operate and maintain waterjet equipment.
• Experience operating CAD/CAM or other basic sketching / drawing programs.
• Experience operating waterjet cutting software, i.e., editing cut files to manipulate lines, curves, and patterns; adjusting feed rates, cutting kerf, in-feed/outfeed types, task specific home coordinates to produce quality parts.
• Knowledge and experience processing material of different material types and grades, i.e., carbon steel, stainless steel, and aluminum (6061 / 5052, etc.,).
• Knowledge of precision measuring instruments i.e. calipers, indicators, and scales.
• Knowledge of common electric / pneumatic power tools and their safe operation:
o Cutting Tools
o Angle Grinders
o Cleaning Materials and Methods
• Knowledge of common processing tools and material handling equipment related to material processing:
o Shear
o Band Saw
o Punch / Ironworker
o Overhead Cranes
o Forklifts / Pallet Jacks
• Additional knowledge of other various fabrication tools desirable but not required: CNC mill, manual mill, manual lathe, press break, and sunrise/ironworker.
• Ability to receive and understand specific instructions, and carry out instructions to completion.
• Ability to understand & comprehend design intent of engineering drawings and written instructions.
• Ability to complete daily material & equipment related documentation.
• Ability to maintain a clean and organized work environment.
• Ability to communicate in English required (written & verbal) skills.

Additional Responsibilities and Duties:

• Familiarize, understand, and use all standard operating procedures determined by FlexDecks’ and equipment manufacturers in relation to use of fabrication / processing equipment.
• Ensure that product standards, both quality and quantity are met.
• Interpret dimensions, material types, and material grades on cut lists or drawings.
• Apply all safety measures when working in the shop and with machines / power tools.
• Personal Protection Equipment is required, including but not limited to hearing protection, eye protection, hard hat and safety shoes.
• Must have the ability to stand for long periods of time within a noisy machine and fabrication open shop environment. Temperatures and humidity fluctuate in accordance with the season. Will work with and around moving machinery.
• This position requires turning, reaching, grasping, bending and flexing, as well as functional hearing, vision, and voice (English).
• This position also requires ability to safely lift and handle up to 50 lbs. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the functions of this job.
• Maintain a positive attitude and further develop and maintain a cohesive team-oriented work environment with all employees, vendors, and customers, and support the company in all decisions.
• Familiarize and understand all FlexDecks’ employment policies such as work hours and days, quality standards, drug screening, safety guidelines, and all policies outlining employee behavior at FlexDecks’ facility.
• May be asked by management to perform other tasks beyond those listed.


• Education: High School Diploma, GED or Equivalent.

• Certification(s): Documented training certification(s) for operating and maintaining high pressure abrasive waterjet cutting equipment; certification(s) do not need to be FLOW waterjet specific, but documented experience and knowledge must be applicable to FLOW waterjet equipment.

• Experience: Two plus (2+) years’ operating and maintaining abrasive waterjet cutting equipment. Specifically, the processing of aluminum and steel wrought alloy plates of various thicknesses and material grades.

• Passing of drug/alcohol and background screens required.

Compensation: Based on experience. Range $18.00-$23.00 per hour
